November 5, 2026
At about 6:30 p.m. on each of the five nights, the first lit boats leave the tip of Lido Isle. They come back to that same point around 9:00 p.m. Between those two times they travel past the Peninsula, around Balboa Island, along Mariners' Mile and through the Lido channels. The official 2026 route map lists the expected time at 57 marks along the way.
Read in order, those marks work as a clock for the whole harbor. The boats reach Marina Park a few minutes before 7:00 and Lido Marina Village at about 8:46. Both are good places to watch, but they give you two different evenings. Picking a spot also picks your dinner time, your parking plan and whether young children are still awake when the lights go by.
The 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs Wednesday through Sunday, December 16 to 20, 2026. The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts it again this year. The route is the same every night, so a schedule that suits you on Wednesday will suit you on Saturday too. Opening night is the one exception, covered below.
The table follows the route in order, grouped by the hour the boats arrive. All times are approximate and come from the 2026 route map.
| Approximate time | Stretch of harbor | Named marks on the map |
|---|---|---|
| 6:30 to 6:49 | Lido Isle | Start at the tip of Lido Isle, Lido Isle Yacht Club, Lido Isle Bridge, Rhine Channel |
| 6:51 to 7:02 | Upper Peninsula | Woody's Wharf, Peninsula Village, Marina Park, Lighthouse Café, 15th Street Beach, 10th Street Beach |
| 7:05 to 7:16 | Bay Island to Balboa Village | Bay Island Bridge, Newport Landing, Balboa Peninsula Ferry Landing, Balboa Fun Zone, Balboa Pavilion, Davey's Locker |
| 7:25 to 7:41 | Harbor entrance | Peninsula Point Beach, Pirate's Cove, Channel Reef and China Cove, Balboa Yacht Club |
| 7:45 to 8:11 | Around Balboa Island | Balboa Island Bridge, Little Island, South Bayfront, Ferry Landing, Collins Island, North Bayfront |
| 8:18 to 8:39 | Upper harbor to Bayshores | Harbor Island, PCH Bridge, Bay Shores Community Beach, Balboa Bay Resort, Orange Coast College crew base |
| 8:42 to 8:53 | Mariners' Mile and Lido | Rusty Pelican, Billy's at the Beach, Louie's by the Bay, Lido Marina Village, Lido Park, Via Lido North Genoa Beach |
| 9:00 | Lido Isle | Finish at the tip of Lido Isle |
From the first boat at Lido to the last stretch along Mariners' Mile is about two hours and fifteen minutes. Every section below works from that spread.
The boats pass the Peninsula first, so the lights reach this side of the harbor while it is still early evening. Woody's Wharf sees the lead boats at about 6:51. Marina Park, Lighthouse Café and 15th Street Beach follow within six minutes, and the Fun Zone and Balboa Pavilion come around 7:15. If you watch from this stretch, the boats will have passed before 7:30, which leaves time for a late dinner afterward or an early night at home.
The drone shows fit neatly into this window. On every parade night there is a drone show at Peninsula Park, near the Fun Zone, at 6:45 p.m. and again at 8:00 p.m. One way to plan the early hour:
The parade's own site says shoreline viewing is free, City parking lots are open during the parade, and you should arrive early. The directions and parking page also says the lots fill quickly. Lighthouse, next to Marina Park, warns parade-night diners that it shares parking with the park, that space is "extremely limited," and that the Peninsula sees significant traffic every parade evening. It recommends using a rideshare.
After leaving the harbor entrance, the boats circle Balboa Island instead of passing it once. They reach the Balboa Island Bridge around 7:45, run along the South Bayfront at about 7:54 and pass the Ferry Landing at 8:01. They then go around Collins Island, come back along the North Bayfront at about 8:07 and pass the bridge again at 8:11.
That gives Balboa Island the parade for close to half an hour, from one side and then the other. It is also the middle of the evening: later than the Peninsula, earlier than Lido. Watching from the island leaves time for an early dinner beforehand, and the boats will have moved on toward Harbor Island by 8:18.
At the far end of the loop, the timetable bunches up. The map lists City Cruises at Mariners' Mile at 8:42, Rusty Pelican at 8:43, and Billy's at the Beach and Louie's by the Bay at 8:44. The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar follows at 8:45, Lido Marina Village at 8:46, and Malibu Farm and Lido Bottle Works at 8:47. HanaHaus comes at 8:48, Lido Park and the Lido Bridge at 8:50, and Via Lido North Genoa Beach at 8:53. That is eleven marks on the map in about eleven minutes, the busiest stretch of the route.
For a sit-down dinner with the parade as dessert, this is the hour to book. The second Balboa Bay Club drone show at 8:15 also comes just before the boats reach the Balboa Bay Resort mark at 8:35 and Mariners' Mile a few minutes after that.
Three 2026 dine-and-watch options show how the timing affects the format:
Wednesday, December 16 adds two things to the evening. Fireworks go off over Newport Pier at about 6:15 p.m., before the 6:30 start. On the Balboa Bay Club side, the first drone show that night is at 6:00 p.m. instead of the 6:15 slot used on the other four nights.
Marina Park, at 1600 W. Balboa Blvd., has the longest opening-night program. Its fourth annual Holiday Market runs from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with more than 35 local makers, food vendors, live music and children's activities, according to the Marina Park event page. If you arrive at 4:00, you get the market, the pier fireworks to the west and the lead boats before 7:00, all from one spot. That is the longest evening on the parade calendar, and it all happens on the early side of the loop.
Waterfront homes add a slower schedule of their own. The Ring of Lights contest is open to waterfront homes, businesses and yacht clubs. Entry costs $35, forms are due by noon on Friday, December 11, and judging takes place on Monday, December 14, 2026, two days before the first boat leaves Lido.
If your home faces the route, the timetable also tells you roughly when the parade will be passing your windows, and the Ring of Lights deadline gives you a firm date for having everything lit. The same thinking about presentation shapes how we prepare homes for market at JoJo Romeo & Associates. We look at what a buyer sees, from which side and in what light. When you're ready to talk about your own harborfront home, we'd be glad to put together a complimentary home valuation and transformation plan.
